Status of Riau’s Forests

In 2001, WWF found the plant diversity of the Tesso Nilo forest in the center of Riau to be absolutely outstanding among the forests of the world. In 2003, the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) confirmed the results.

Yet, Riau has lost 54% of its forest cover between 1982 and 2004 . Forests unparalleled in the world are disappearing at a rate of 450 haper day in this little province alone.The secrets these forests held and the benefits they may have given to mankind will never be discovered. Oceans ofidentical, artificially grown palm and acacia trees now cover what once was the ultimate harbor for life’s diversity.

Plantation companies have been driving the loss of forests. In 2004, they controlled 3,840,907 ha (46%) of Riau’s mainland. The pulp industry held concession rights to 1,839,167 ha (22%). The palm oil industry held rights to 2,001,741 ha (24%) in 2002. Only 579,052 ha (7%) of Riau are in protected areas.

In mid 2004, 2,467,832 ha of natural forest remained outside protected areas. 1,215,562 ha (49%) were inside concessions of the forest conversion or logging industry and may soon be gone, 39% were locally protected forests, so called Hutan Lindung (Protection Forests), which have seen dramatic rates of conversion in recent years, despite their protection status.

Imagine having to go to a museum to see a tiger. Imagine one of your grandchildren asking, “What was a rainforest?”

It is a fact that humans are responsible for extinguishing species at 1,000 times the natural rate seen in evolution. Over the next 100 years, this figure could increase to 10,000. If we don’t look out for the future, for the lives of people to come, much of what we have in the world today will have to be examined in museums and taught in school history lessons.

earth is in great danger, with millions of people using so many stuff that hurts her, we can use up our natural resources in a short time not only do every single living thing depend on out natural resources but each one who eats, like the food chain!

no plant-no worm-no chicken-no man
what if earth is completely out of plants?how can we survive?we should take care of earth and everything else in it!

what happens to the souls of dead flowers?
yes they go to heaven

what happens to the souls of dead trees who havent made a single fruit or flower yet?
they go to heaven and bare fruit there,get comforted by God,as God will punish who murdered him/her

what happens to the ones who murdered a creation of God and a part of mother nature?
Well some who murdered a human being would get punished by going to hell unless he really does his best in being forgiven,the ones who kill plants get other chances

why do we/they need to hurt mother nature?
when will they learn to love her?
how?when?

please do the best you can,we cant do these stuff forever,we dont have forever

i still dont know:
why do they
need to kill each other
hate nature
hurt nature
harm nature
cut trees and dont replace them
throw wastes on water when they can use it as fertilizer
turn the precious forest to civilization when we already have malls,and all
think its pathetic to save nature

why cant they
understand that when we save nature,it would lead to a better life
start helping nature carers out
help me
realize that its GOD’s creation
realize that if adam and eve cant take care of it we should
realize that god wants us to take care of creation
understand that we are the highest type of animals and we are the ones able to take care of them

then why are we
the ones torturing nature?
the ones playing dumb?
the ones who are irresponsible?
the ones not obeying god?
the ones who dont take care of nature when we have the brains to do so??

you know why?because people now a days,only care for theirselves

You shall PLANT more tress,stop illegal logging and burning of forests
You shall PROTECT endangered species
You shall not resort to destructive methods of fishing;rehabilitate damaged corals instead
You shall STOP polluting the soil and waterways with garbage and waste instead RECYCLE & COMPOST.There is cash in trash
You shall NOT burn plastics to dispose of garbage
You shall STOP the use of CFC’s and other ozone eating chemicals
You shall STOP black smoke emissions that cause mental retardation and diseases especially among children by keeping vehicles in good running condition
You shall NOT smoke and NEVER play around drugs
You shall CONSERVE water and energy because the earth has a limited carrying capacity
You shall PREVENT wars that will destroy our common home

The Earth does not need saving . But all Life as we know it on Earth may well be in peril. Many people, including a majority of the living Nobel Laureates in the sciences, recognize that the entire Human Species is in danger of extinction, along with most other life on Earth. Be informed of the problem and don’t despair. It is not too late. We humans do have the natural wisdom to survive. All of Nature is counting on us and will help. If enough of us recognize the problems in time, and act responsibly, we can turn it around. Recognize that we are not Masters of Nature, we are a part of Nature – she is our Mother. Love her, serve life, give back to her and all other life on Earth. Remember, and act for our children’s children
